ROMANESQUE INTERPRETATION CENTER

The southern part of Cantabria, comprising Valdeolea, Campoo and Valderredible have a large group of architectural manifestations Romanesque churches as a sign of the demographic and economic expansion that took place in the eleventh and twelfth centuries throughout the southern part of the cornice Cantabrian, and allowed the colonization of Extremadura del Duero.

But you do not go so far back in time to enjoy the Romanesque, just get closer to this simple but interesting interpretation center. It's smaller and therefore we can not discover how a bow rider, an apse, how an ashlar carving or a floor leveled. This has taken the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Villacantid. It is a Romanesque monument, recently restored and adapted for that use, in the middle of the region of Campo, near the source of the Ebro

To reach Villacantid is necessary to take the output of the A-67 to kilometer 136, in the direction of the ski resort of Méribel Centre. Once left behind Reinosa follows the C-625, passed Fontibre (birth of the Ebro) and continues until Shin, where a left turn indicating Villacantid.
