CAVES OF CASTILLO AND HORNOS DE LA PEÑA

Cantabria is one of the most outstanding prehistoric cultural heritage of all the Spanish geography. There are many, many archaeological cavities, of which a few are visited. The Government of Cantabria has a reservation center where we can arrange visits, of which we will focus on two that are within walking distance of El Rincon del Besaya:

1.- La Cueva del Castillo, in Puente Viesgo, is a benchmark. It has excellent infrastructure to be accessed, and the quantity, quality and variety of murals and makes remains highly recommended for the traveler or tourist who wants to see first hand our past.

2.- The CAVE Hornos de la Peña is also visited from the same booking portal of the Government of Cantabria, but here things change: only allowed to visit small groups, and lighting lanterns are a guide itself provides. These limitations, far from being a problem, make this small cavity (both in the development of the galleries and in its dimensions) something charming and different. And in its midst is a very strange anthropomorphic representations of the peninsula, as recorded on a small chapel dome natural, and that surprises and transports, the circumstances in which it is shown, in a time forgotten.
